Del Worsham, a notable figure in nitro drag racing, recently found himself inducted into the Bristol Dragway’s Legends of Thunder Valley Club, becoming the youngest to receive such an honor. This recognition places him among greats like Don Garlits and Rickie Smith, much to Worsham’s surprise, as he humorously reflects on feeling too young for such accolades. He has had a notable career, winning multiple titles at Bristol, including his first NHRA title in 2003, and contributing significantly as a crew chief for Alexis DeJoria.

Worsham’s journey in drag racing began unexpectedly. With no prior racing experience, he first drove a Funny Car in 1990 and faced challenges adjusting to the powerful vehicle. Despite initial struggles, he soon found his stride, ultimately achieving impressive runs in subsequent competitions.

His affection for Bristol developed over time, transforming from indifference to appreciation after experiencing the track’s vibrant atmosphere and its dedicated fan base. Worsham reflects on drag racing as the core of his life, sharing it with family and highlighting how it has provided him great memories and fulfillment.
