Season 4 of Horsepower Wars initially planned separate series for LS vs Coyote 3 and the C10 Shootout but ultimately linked them, aiming to integrate the build-off engines into the trucks. Although the engines were shipped for assembly, challenges arose regarding the compatibility of the turbo systems with the trucks, particularly after discovering the custom HPT 7680 turbos struggled to handle the high RPMs, leading to significant back pressure issues.

To address these concerns, HPT provided custom 76103 turbos that offered improved performance, anticipating a 100-200 horsepower increase. However, installing the new turbos led to concerns about the engines’ durability, necessitating a return for safety checks and adjustments to lower the compression ratios with new pistons. This change aimed to increase the tuning window and reduce the risk of detonation.

The possibility of switching to a twin-turbo setup was considered but ultimately rejected. The article also delves into technical details about turbos, including the importance of turbine housing, volute design, A/R ratios, and exhaust flanges impact on performance. The episode emphasizes the significance of properly matching turbo specifications to engine requirements to optimize power without sacrificing reliability.

Horsepower Wars acknowledges numerous sponsors supporting the project, stressing the collaboration essential for the competition’s success. Overall, the focus remains on building reliable vehicles capable of high performance under race conditions.
