In May 2000, Donn Hosford captured the event win and set a track record at Madras Dragway. By 2005, he was profiled as a Top Alcohol Funny Car owner/driver, but his racing journey took a turn in 2017 when he sold his TAFC operation and moved from Portland to a suburb of Seattle, symbolizing a decline in local drag racing. Over the years, the author maintained contact with Donn and learned he had acquired a striking pearl orange Lamborghini Gallardo, prompting a meeting to reconnect.

Their reunion, arranged with fellow racer Don Lane, showcased nostalgia for racing, with discussions about lost drag strips and the thrilling past of vehicle launches. Although the Lamborghini dazzled, Donn missed the experience of racing—particularly the launch of a drag car. He expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of TAFC, stating, “It’s just an expensive hobby,” and commented on the NHRA’s bureaucracy as part of his reason for leaving racing.

Despite his reluctance to transition from racing, Donn finds joy in his collection of exotic cars, including a second Lamborghini. He still visits the strip occasionally but cherishes the camaraderie and excitement of racing much more. The hope remains to reconnect with racing friends in the future, even as he navigates his new passion for high-performance street cars.
