Travis Shumake, a Phoenix native and NHRA Top Fuel driver, is set to make his Funny Car debut during the FMP NHRA Arizona Nationals on March 20-22, 2026. This marks a significant shift for Shumake, who previously held the speed record of 330.88 mph in his Top Fuel Dragster. He will be driving Dave Benjamin’s Nostalgia Funny Car, a personal venture made all the more poignant as it coincides with the NHRA’s tribute to his late father, Tripp Shumake, at the upcoming NHRA Winternationals. Tripp’s legacy is notable; he secured the 100th Funny Car victory in NHRA history in 1981.

Travis expressed his excitement about returning to his roots, stating, “The twists and turns of this off-season put me in a position to celebrate my dad’s milestone in a very direct way.” His Top Fuel Dragster will also be showcased at the event as part of an interactive activation with Kroger Health’s Team Tune Up program, continuing their partnership beyond the Phoenix race.

Fry’s Food Stores, Shumake’s long-time sponsor, continues to be a steadfast supporter of his journey, emphasizing community upliftment and local pride. Christina Groth of Fry’s highlighted the importance of supporting athletes like Shumake. As the Legends Nitro Series kicks off qualifying on Friday at 2:30 p.m., fans will have the chance to catch coverage on FS1 throughout the weekend.
