Building a 1993–2002 F-body for track racing requires balancing increased space and reduced weight under the hood. Team Z Motorsports has developed tubular front end kits to achieve this balance, addressing common issues faced by F-body owners. The design of the fourth-generation F-body limits under-hood space due to the engine’s placement beneath the cowl and the bulky factory support for front fenders. This can complicate work on the car, especially with turbo kit installations.

The solution involves removing excess factory material and replacing it with a lightweight tubular front structure, which enhances space and accessibility. Dave Zimmerman from Team Z explains that the design process drew on his 30 years of experience, aiming for practicality by allowing easy welding to the strut tower for added strength. This design also facilitates the addition of motor and mid-plates.

Team Z offers these tubular front ends in fully welded and kit forms, both made from 4130 chromoly. Each option provides a reduction of about 25 pounds from the vehicle’s front end and includes all necessary mounting hardware for installation. For those interested in upgrading their F-body’s front end, further details can be found on the Team Z website.
