Steve Torrence, the 40-year-old driver of the CAPCO Contractors Top Fuel Toyota, remains optimistic about his team’s potential to add more championships despite a three-year title drought. As he prepares for the 56th annual Amalie Gatornationals, the opening event of the 2025 Mission Foods Series, Torrence reflects on a challenging competitive landscape, noting the emergence of eight different winners and seven No. 1 qualifiers in the previous season. He emphasizes that every round is difficult, requiring perfection for a chance at victory.

Torrence, a former Top Alcohol Dragster Champion and a driver who has achieved NHRA titles in both Top Alcohol and Top Fuel, has faced disappointments and finished seventh last season. However, he believes his team still has numerous wins in their future and is eager to return to racing after a break. The Gatornationals poses a tough challenge, with Torrence having won the event only once, in 2020, in a tribute car for the legendary Don Garlits.

Over the last decade, Torrence has continually made his mark, holding the longest active streak of at least one tour event win for ten consecutive years, and ranking first with 47 total wins since 2017. Qualifying sessions for the Gatornationals are set for Friday, with racing commencing Saturday morning. Torrence is determined to reclaim his winning form as the new season unfolds.
