Brian Bednar’s 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass is more than just a race car; it’s a cherished family heirloom with a rich history. Initially purchased by Brian’s sister in 1987, the Cutlass was handed down through generations, being used as a daily driver and traversing long distances from Florida to California. After sitting idle for eight years, the car returned to Brian in 2020, worn yet structurally sound, prompting him to transform it into a race car.

Brian’s passion for racing, rooted in a family deeply involved in motorsports, inspired him to compete for over 40 years across various categories, including piloting Top Alcohol Dragsters. The Oldsmobile features an unconventional engine setup, blending Oldsmobile heritage with a modern Gen III HEMI, producing impressive performance. The 426 cubic-inch engine, equipped with a Whipple supercharger, is complemented by an FTI powerglide transmission and a Ford 9” rearend.

With a best run of 5.06 seconds at 142 mph in the 1/8th mile, Brian aims to update the chassis for Top Sportsman competition. He credits Geoff and Jena Turk of Blackbird Performance for their expertise in building the powerful engine and acknowledges the help of friends and family, including his wife, Micki. The OldsMopar’s unique combination and rich family history make it a standout in drag racing, promising exciting competition in future events.
