ICU Racing

Power Wheels are motorized electric vehicles that allow young children a taste of driving, and recently, organized Power Wheels racing has gained popularity, offering kids aged three to nine the opportunity to engage in drag racing. Events are hosted in multiple states, including Ohio, Michigan, and Texas, attracting over 130 entries.

The evolution of Power Wheels racing began in 2018 when Rod Zolman and Bill and Vicky Hoskinson introduced no-prep heads-up races at Pacemakers Dragway. Their focus was to involve children in drag racing through big wheel races. They asked Mel Robison to organize Power Wheels events, resulting in a structured racing schedule. Initially starting with two classes—12-volt stock and 12-volt modified—Robison later introduced a 24-volt modified category for those wanting to race faster, achieving speeds of 19-24 mph over a short 60-foot distance.

Robison emphasizes that this initiative aims to inspire kids to explore drag racing as a stepping stone to more competitive categories like JR Dragsters. Some participants have successfully transitioned from Power Wheels racing to JR Dragsters, even winning titles. This accessible racing format provides a valuable outlet for children interested in motorsports, fostering the next generation of racers and potentially future NHRA world champions. Power Wheels racing not only promotes fun but also builds a foundation for lifelong engagement in the sport.
