Paolo Giust, a veteran racer in the Radial versus The World category, made history on Thursday by achieving the fastest elapsed time in radial-tire drag racing, recording a remarkable 3.479 seconds at 214.42 mph in his supercharged 1968 Chevrolet Camaro during the second qualifier of DuckX Productions’ Lights Out 16 at South Georgia Motorsports Park. His run marked the quickest side-by-side radial pass ever, surpassing the previous record of 3.486 seconds set by Steve Jackson last March. Giust’s performance featured notable splits, including 0.911 seconds for 60 feet and 2.331 seconds to half track.

Another competitor, Ken Quartuccio, also had an impressive run, clocking in at 3.497 seconds at 211.33 mph to secure the provisional second qualifying spot. Giust’s achievement on the day included a prior career-best time of 3.498 seconds during the opening session, making it his second 3.40-second pass of the event. With this performance, Giust ranks as the fourth-quickest driver in history with a full-bodied car, following behind the top slick-tire racers.

The event continues, offering racers another opportunity to break records, as weather forecasts predict density altitudes significantly below sea level for the upcoming days.
