At the TX2K street car shootout in Ennis, Texas, standout racers Brett Lasala and Eric Laferriere captivated audiences in the 2JZ versus The World category. Competing in high-powered cars—the turbocharged “White Rice” 1995 Nissan 240SX driven by Laferriere and the twin-turbo “Snot Rocket 3.0” Mustang driven by Lasala—the two faced off in six intense qualifying rounds. Both racers nearly broke into the five-second zone on 275 drag radials, recording impressively close times of 6.053 and 6.052 seconds.

In a remarkable final qualifying session, Laferriere achieved a groundbreaking 5.905-second pass, marking the first five-second run in TX2K history and surpassing his own world record for import drag radial tires. This feat earned him a $10,000 bonus from event promoter Peter Blach. The impressive performance was supported by advanced engineering, including a high-performance 2JZ engine built by a collaborative team.

Despite Laferriere’s early success, he faced an upset in eliminations against Aldo Mireles, while Lasala advanced through the rounds. He finally secured victory with a record-setting 5.879-second run against Mac Brosnan, who was unable to compete. Lasala left the event with a total payout of $36,000, marking a memorable weekend in TX2K history as he and Laferriere showcased the thrill of small tire racing.
