The fourth season of Horsepower Wars has returned, starting with the LS vs. Coyote 3 competition, where a turbocharged 5.3L LT engine faced off against a Gen 3 5.0L Coyote engine. The Coyote narrowly won, achieving 1,419 hp compared to the LT’s 1,401 hp. This season features a C10 Shootout, where these engines will be placed in Chevy C10 trucks for a drag-and-drive challenge.
The rules for the C10 Shootout are designed to keep the competition friendly yet competitive. Both trucks will retain their steel and glass structures and full interiors. They will feature the same engines and turbo systems from the LS vs. Coyote showdown and use race E85 fuel. A 100-mile drive will precede races to determine the best of two out of three at Darana Dragway. The competitors are Eric Yost of Customs by Bigun, working on a “Coyote 10” 1972 C10, and Big 3 Racing with a 1978 “Big 10” C10.
Yost plans to install a DOHC Ford V8 into his ’72, while Big 3 Racing will stick with a late model Chevy LT engine. Compared to prior seasons, this event aims to foster a more relaxed atmosphere while maintaining high excitement. Sponsors include Summit Racing and Holley, ensuring top-notch components for builds. Stay tuned for the rebuild process of these classic trucks!
