Jimmy Taylor made history at Maryland International Raceway by setting a new doorslammer world record with a remarkable run of 3.387 seconds at 240.29 mph in his twin-turbo ’69 Camaro. This achievement marks Taylor as the first driver to exceed 240 mph in the eighth-mile, drastically altering perceptions of racing potential. Initially aiming for a 3.39-second pass, he was elated to surpass that expectation, illustrating the difficulties of achieving such speeds.

Taylor’s run featured intense moments, including a challenging launch where the Camaro veered left before sharply correcting. Despite the urge to lift off, he maintained control and continued to push through to the finish line. The successful run has set Taylor and his tuner, Carl Stevens Jr., on an ambitious path to break more records, including aiming for the first-ever four-second quarter-mile pass by a doorslammer at the upcoming Haltech World Cup Finals.

The journey to this record wasn’t easy; Taylor acknowledges the collective effort of his team and sponsors in overcoming challenges. Even before the record attempt, they worked tirelessly to ensure optimal performance. With their sights set on future milestones, Taylor’s determination remains unwavering. “We’re not done,” he said, emphasizing their commitment to pushing the boundaries of modern racing.
