The final round of the Congruity NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series at the Dodge NHRA Nevada Nationals culminated in a high-pressure showdown between J.R. Gray and Billy Banaka, with Gray ultimately claiming his first world championship. Throughout the season, Gray showcased his racing prowess, achieving three wins and four final-round appearances. However, a slower start in the playoffs required him to excel in Las Vegas to secure the title.

Demonstrating composure and focus, Gray described the competition’s intensity, stating, “Every round… this is the most important round.” His mental preparedness was key, as he balanced calmness with the adrenaline of the moment. To reach the final, he defeated formidable opponents, including Alex Laughlin and former champion Mike Castellana, while his Al-Anabi team consistently performed with runs in the 5.7s and 5.75s range.

In the final against Banaka, who had his own breakout season and was a serious title contender, Gray showed determination. He declared he wouldn’t lift off the throttle in the climax of the race, which ultimately secured his victory as the lights signaled him as the winner.

With this triumph, Gray cemented his status among NHRA Pro Mod elite racers in front of an enthusiastic Las Vegas crowd, marking a significant achievement for both him and his team.
