The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) has acquired IHRA Australia, consolidating all sanctioning operations in Australia and New Zealand under Darryl Cuttell’s leadership. This significant move enhances the IHRA brand’s coherence and strengthens ties between the U.S. and Asia-Pacific regions, particularly as the Outlaw Nitro Series enjoys success in the U.S. For racers in Australia and New Zealand, local operations will persist, with licensing, membership, and rules enforcement remaining in-country; however, competitors will now be part of the global IHRA community.

The Asia-Pacific headquarters continues in Australia, led by Managing Director Maurice Allen, who expressed confidence in a smooth transition. Allen emphasized Cuttell’s track record, including his acquisition of seven notable motorsport facilities in the U.S., suggesting a promising future for drag racing at all levels in the region. Cuttell outlined his ambition to establish a comprehensive global drag racing strategy, noting that integrating Australia and New Zealand into the IHRA family is pivotal. He emphasized substantial investments intended to support clubs, teams, venues, and competitors throughout the region.

Although the details regarding potential changes to events in Australia remain unclear, the acquisition signifies a commitment to enhancing the sport’s presence and operations across the Asia-Pacific, with Cuttell looking forward to sharing his vision during an upcoming visit.
