The IHRA President’s Cup Nationals is set to make a thrilling return to Maryland International Raceway (MIR) on August 8-9, 2025, after a nine-year pause. This renowned event, celebrated for its storied history since its inception in 1992, has been a highlight in the drag racing community, featuring memorable moments and significant milestones. In its previous years, the event witnessed the first all 6-second Pro Stock qualified field and has recognized champions across various classes, including Scotty Cannon’s Pro Mod victory in its debut year and the introduction of Funny Cars in 1993.

Historical events such as Jack Ostrander’s surprising defeat of Clay Millican in 2002, where he ended Millican’s perfect season, further cement the event’s legacy. With over 700 racers in attendance that year, parking overflowed into a nearby farmer’s field, showcasing the event’s popularity.

Royce Miller, owner of MIR, expressed excitement for the event’s return, emphasizing the rich history and the potential for creating even more unforgettable experiences, thanks to collaborations with IHRA and WDRA. As one of the premier drag racing venues in the Washington-Baltimore area, MIR hosts over 100 events annually, including professional drag racing and car shows. More information regarding ticket options, race classes, and event schedules will be available soon through IHRA.com and social media platforms.
