NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster driver James Stevens experienced a severe crash during the Lucas Oil Winternationals at Pomona Dragstrip, resulting in significant injuries: a broken forearm, broken wrist, a fractured C-7 vertebra, rib fractures, and a bruised lung. His wife, Shaun, has been sharing updates on social media, expressing their reliance on prayer for strength and support during this challenging time. They are currently in Southern California, far from their home in Gothenburg, Nebraska, as James begins his recovery journey post-surgery.

Shaun emphasized the importance of faith, stating, “Need lots of prayers. We are feeling the prayers and God holding us thru this.” She noted that although James faces a long recovery ahead, they are supported by friends, family, and their faith. Recently, James has shown signs of progress, sitting up for the first time since the accident and preparing for physical and occupational therapy. He also walked to a chair with assistance, although he is experiencing numbness in his right leg. Shaun mentioned the need for further scans to determine the cause of this numbness, with hopes of him transitioning to a lower-care room and ultimately to rehab. The couple remains optimistic about his recovery, continuing to seek prayers and support from their community.
