CompetitionPlus is mourning the tragic loss of Chris Haverly, a beloved staff member, who died in a single-car accident in Wytheville, Virginia. Known for his deep respect for drag racing and its community, Haverly was valued both for his talent in photography and for his kindness. CompetitionPlus.com Editor/Publisher Bobby Bennett fondly remembered him as a kind and selfless individual who significantly contributed to the team and drag racing at large. Haverly’s commitment extended beyond motorsports; he was also dedicated to animal rescue. Growing up in Eastern Kentucky and Southwest Virginia, he fostered a lifelong compassion for animals, often caring for stray dogs while working in coal mines.

Over the years, he helped place more than 50 abandoned dogs into homes and collaborated with regional organizations to transport animals from high-risk shelters, often at his own expense. His mission included delivering pet food to those in need, believing everyone should be able to care for their pets without financial strain. Haverly was deeply cherished at the racetrack, where he built friendships and brightened lives with his humor and warmth. Both colleagues and friends described him as not just a talented photographer but a true advocate for animals. His legacy of kindness, service, and compassion remains, leaving a lasting impact on his community and the drag racing world. CompetitionPlus extends its condolences to Haverly’s family and friends.
