Newbern and his team are putting the finishing touches on a radical 1957 Chevrolet, transforming it into a street freak that harks back to the vibrant car culture of Southern California in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Street freaks, an evolution of gassers, were known for their extreme designs and bold statements on iconic streets like Van Nuys Boulevard, drawing inspiration and influence from Hollywood.

In a recent episode from Newbern’s Garage, the crew showcases their progress on this unique project, affectionately dubbed “The Street Freak.” Having previously raised the factory suspension by a full 12 inches, the next step is to deliver some serious power to the vehicle. They plan to install a robust 383ci Small Block Chevy coupled with a 671 Blower Shop Supercharger, generating approximately 700 horsepower. This impressive setup promises to not only provide thrilling performance but also ensure the car captures attention on the streets.

The video captures the excitement and creativity involved in crafting this one-of-a-kind Chevy, embodying the spirit of innovation and adventure that characterized the street freak movement. For enthusiasts of classic cars and hot rods, this project highlights the blend of nostalgia and modern performance technology that continues to inspire car builders today.
