On March 21, 2025, a captivating scene unfolds as Lance Smith showcases his innovative creation: a 1999 Craftsman Series NASCAR Race Truck ingeniously disguised as a rusty 1971 Chevrolet C10. This vehicle, termed a “racerod,” combines the rugged appearance of an old truck with the performance of a racing chassis, allowing for a fun and thrilling driving experience.

Lance transforms a dilapidated truck hull by placing it onto the race chassis, retaining the essential features that ensure high performance, including an integrated roll cage and Penske dual adjustable shocks. The modifications require repositioning of wheel openings and alignment of key components, demonstrating Lance’s skills as an artist, craftsman, and master fabricator.

Equipped with a naturally aspirated 358-cubic inch V8 engine and a Holley carburetor, the racerod also includes a dry sump lubrication system and a 4-speed manual transmission. The vehicle boasts Brembo 6-piston disc brakes, ensuring top-notch stopping power, while the Ford 9-inch rear end provides durability.

As “car guy” Nicole Johnson prepares to take this unique creation onto the highway, the excitement surrounding Lance’s innovative approach to automotive design becomes palpable. This racerod not only reflects a blend of nostalgia and modern engineering but also captures the essence of fun in the world of custom vehicles.
